The Company of Angels

We winged it to Dublin Castle earlier today for the launch of Angels – Beacons Of Hope.

Angels is described by its founder Nollaig Casey as “a unique Irish experience that will capture the imagination of the general public throughout the latter part of 2009 and early 2010.”

The impressive, 8-foot tall fibreglass angels have been offered as a blank canvas to some of Ireland’s finest artists, musicians, sports people and leading figures including Neil Jordan, Brian O’Driscoll, The Edge, Ryan Tubridy and Cillian Murphy, who will each decorate an Angel according to their own interpretation of hope. Anyone who watched O’Driscoll burrowing over the try-line earlier this year will await his artistic take on hope with particular interest.

And what brought us along to applaud this particular initiative? We’re members of Venture Network, who were also invited to decorate an Angel.

The Angels will be displayed in Dublin Castle until the end of December, when they’ll tour selected counties across Ireland before landing again in Dublin where they’ll be auctioned in aid of vital charities Gaisce (The President’s Award), First Step Georgia and Second Sight.

And no, we didn’t miss the irony of Angels daring to tread at a venue which has seen more than its share of devils and fools of late.

Visit Angels – Beacons Of Hope to learn more or to make a donation to one of the three charities.
